Title: What types of out of the house preschool activities do you do?
Post by: MommyPants on August 13, 2010, 09:58:54 pm
We occasionally go to the park.  We just got back from a great family trip to see my mom and to go camping!  It was such fun, I think that we would really like to find a local group to camp with more often.  The kids got to go fishing for the first time, and had a blast for the entire 10 minutes!  We are going to do some nature walks and probably a trip to the zoo this fall.  But, I'm feeling like Sofi is ready for a few more structured activities.  I need to make sure it is something that will also be appropriate for Walter, too.  And we try to avoid loud, chaotic events - my kids (and I) just don't do well with them.  I also tend to avoid the library story hours because I don't like a lot of what they read to the kids, and other events for similar reasons.

What types of activities do you do with your kids?

Bry loves nature centers and to go hiking. I have found Ernie Miller to have wonderful preschool story time. Johnny Appleseed was our favorite. They had a guy dress up like JAS and come in and tell his own story. It was really cute.

That sounds awesome!  We'll have to check it out some time.

A bit closer to you is George Owens Nature Center They have a really nice Dragon Fly Daze. The kids listen to two stories about dragon fly's, observe them outside in their environment, paint a dragon fly on a canvas hat. the only down fall is that they have several cheap foam crafts but if you get into the group that goes down to the pond first you can easily skip out on that part of it. In fact Bryson was so disappointed with the cheaper crafts that he asked to leave. I think after making the hat and reading the two stories it was kind of a let down.

Cool.  Is George Owens the one by the zoo?

I completely understand! There are just so many of them around here. It's not a bad thing at all because other places we visited do not have the nature centers and it is rather sad.
